Kids Jiu Jitsu in Melbourne
Ninja Stars (4½ to 7) · Samurai Warriors (8 to 10)

Our kids jiu jitsu classes build confidence, self-discipline, respect and concentration, along with age-appropriate self defence. Classes run for 45 minutes, after school and on Saturday mornings, at 272 Dundas St, Thornbury.
We put self defence and character development ahead of tournaments, and we measure success by each child's own improvement. That also means no travel, protective gear or entry fees for competitions.
Ninja Stars (4½ to 7)
This is where our youngest students start. Through games and basic techniques, children work on their coordination, balance, listening and confidence.

Wonderful teachers and ethos. My girl has been here since she was a wee dot: grown from shy 5 year old to tall brown belt.
— Chris R.
Samurai Warriors (8 to 10)
Older children add more real self defence, throws and safe falling, while improving their hand-eye coordination, balance and agility.

We couldn’t be happier with the care and patience that all of the teachers have with our son. Since we started, we have seen a massive improvement in his motor strength, coordination, and perseverance.

Kids Life Skills

Alongside the physical training, children take part in mat chats on topics such as teamwork, friendship, self-control, listening and dealing with bullies.
Our Emotional Intelligence programme covers 16 key topics, and was developed with Dr Warren Guest (PhD, Education) exclusively for our school, then reviewed by psychologists, teachers and parents.
When they turn 11, Samurai Warrior students move up into our Junior Adults programme.
It’s not only the body-confidence and fitness and strength the dojo imparts in their students, but we were stunned at first to learn of the personal development program that runs alongside the children’s classes mat work. Each week the kids take time out and sit in a circle to discuss issues such as dealing with bullies, respect, assertiveness, the benefits of reading and school, etc.
— Aaron S.
