Weapons training is a normal part of a lesson, we start Jujitsu weapons training from white belt onwards. There are 8 weapons to study before grading to Black Belt and you are expected to be able to use all of them to a good standard at that level.
Nearly all are learnt in pairs with the your training partner usually using a sword for defending and attacking. Using weapons of multiple ranges is a great way to study distance and timing, it really does help with your unarmed self defence training as well.
Ju jitsu weapons studied include Sword , Shoto, Tanto, Bo, Jo, Hanbo, Hojojutsu and Kasarifundo
Sword or Katana training is done with wooden sword called Bokken, we pratice basics intermediate and more advanced techniques with both the long sword (Katana) and the short sword (Shoto), we also train knife (Tanto) defence as a regular part of our training routine.
Bo, Jo and Hanbo are or three staff weapons Bo is 6 foot staff, Jo is 4 foot staff and Hanbo is 3 foot staff. All are interesting and have a wide variety of skills and techniques to learn from striking, locking, throwing against all sots of grabs kicks and strikes.
Hojojustsu (tying cord) training includes how to make hancuffs, rope linking and trying an opponent up after arresting them with jujitsu techniques. Kasarifundo is ment to be a 1m length of chain with a steel weaight attached to each end, in class we pratice these techniqes with a 1m lenght of rope for safety purposes.
