Weapons training is a normal part of a lesson, we start Jujitsu weapons training from white belt onwards. There are 8 weapons to study before grading to Black Belt and you are expected to be able to use all of them to a good standard at that level.
Nearly all are learnt in pairs with the your training partner usually using a sword for defending and attacking. Using weapons of multiple ranges is a great way to study distance and timing, it really does help with your unarmed self defence training as well.
Ju jitsu weapons studied include Sword , Shoto, Tanto, Bo, Jo, Hanbo, Hojojutsu and Kasarifundo
Japanese Sword
Sword or Katana training is done with wooden sword called Bokken, we pratice basics intermediate and more advanced techniques with both the long sword (Katana) and the short sword (Shoto), we also train knife (Tanto) defence as a regular part of our training routine.
